Greener Journeys employs MHP Communications to advise and deliver the campaign.

Ian Kirby – Head of Communications

Ian has worked with Greener Journeys since they started working with MHP in late 2012. A particular highlight for Ian is the high streets campaign of December 2014 and the Bus for Jobs campaign from January 2013. Prior to joining MHP he worked in the Westminster Lobby for over 15 years, and spent 13 of those years as Political Editor of the News of the World. During that time he interviewed four Prime Ministers, carrying out the first joint interview with Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and later David Cameron’s first interviews as Conservative leader and then Prime Minister. He has questioned Barack Obama, reported from war zones across the world and won awards for his campaigning journalism. He has a unique grasp of British and international politics, and of the mechanics and priorities of the media today. He has frequently appeared on the Today programme, Newsnight, Sky and BBC television news and 5 Live.

Nick Laitner – Head of Policy and Strategy

Nick has worked with Greener Journeys since Autumn 2015. He leads on delivering research and policy materials that achieve maximum impact with policymakers and other stakeholders. He provides detailed counsel on the shape of the political landscape and drives Greener Journeys’ overall communications strategy. He has a wealth of experience in public affairs and media relations, and specialises in devising and managing successful business-critical lobbying and reputation uplift campaigns.

Andrew Saywell – Public Affairs Manager

Andrew manages the public affairs outreach for Greener Journeys and joins the team having advised clients on a variety of public affairs campaigns and stakeholder engagement programmes. He has extensive experience of operating in all three levels of government having previously worked for the Policy Research Unit in the House of Commons, the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in Brussels and Strasbourg and serving as a local councillor. Before joining MHP and the Greener Journeys team, Andrew worked as a consultant for a public affairs agency, managing accounts across a broad range of sectors including transport, information technology, education, energy, and housing.

Nicole Martin – Project and Media Director

Nicole joined the Greener Journeys team in January 2016. In addition to project management of the team, she is responsible for driving strategic media and social campaigns. As a former journalist at the Daily Telegraph, where she spent 10 years covering general news, health and media, Nicole has a deep understanding of what makes a good story, and uses this insight in her day-to-day dealings with transport writers across print, online, radio and television. Nicole has worked at MHP for six years year, advising a wide range of clients on their media strategies. She is also part of MHP’s media training team where she advises clients on how to communicate their messages during media interviews.

Nick Collins – Media Relations Manager

Nick recently joined MHP and the Greener Journeys team in 2015 after seven years in the national press, primarily as Science Correspondent and Transport Correspondent at the Daily and Sunday Telegraph. He also brings an inherent understanding of what makes a news story, having worked as a newsdesk editor at the Telegraph, the Independent and i newspapers. Nick uses his specialist reporting background across the science, health, environment and transport sectors, as well as his innate understanding of how news companies operate in the digital age, to help maximise clients’ positive media coverage and inform future PR strategies.

Joseph Reed – Implementation Officer

Joseph has worked with Greener Journeys since Autumn 2014. He carries out the day-to-day implementation of activity, facilitating engagement with both political and media audiences. Joseph joined MHP as an Account Executive, having completed an internship within the Corporate Affairs team. Prior to this, he interned in the marketing and communications function at Barclays where he contributed to a variety of marketing campaigns, writing copy for client stories and for thought leadership pieces. Joseph graduated in 2014 with a degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Nottingham.
